I am new to this community. I finished the couch to 5K and have run 2 5K's in the last month. I finished yesterday in 33:31 (best time yet). I haven't looked into the intermediate 5K on coolrunning, but I will today. I hope to gain and give lots of support to fellow runners!
I started the couch program in July and ran my first 5K in October (2 weeks before Halloween). I finished 34:38 and won 3rd in my age category (29 years). I am hoping to eventually get to 30:00 for a 5K before I start 10K training. I have severe tendonitis in my right leg, but can't imagine stopping long enough for it to heal. I have never run a mile in my life until startng the couch program and hope I can continue running for a long time to come!
Gadgets and Gear
I took up running because I thought it would be a sport with great health value and low financial investment. I'm starting to see that might be flawed. I invested in a good pair of running shoes, a pedometer, and a heart rate monitor. I run outdoors, and I live in Wisconsin. The weather is changing, which means I'm going to need some thermal moisture wicking clothing soon. I have an universal weight machine, an elliptical machine, a stair stepper and a stationary bike already, but I'm starting to think a treadmill might be a good idea for those snowy icy winter days. My husband won't be too pleased if I add another piece of equipment to the tiny "gym" in the basement, so I might have to trade one of my cardio toys...
My iPod died recently, and I've been using my daughter's tiny little mp3 player to listen to the c25k podcasts.. yes, I'm still listening to the podcasts, I just don't stop when Robert says stop. He has a knack for picking music that has a decent beat and is mindless and long enough for me to just keep running... But anyway, I would like to start running to my own music pretty soon, so a bigger better mp3 or another iPod is in order soon.
I also want a Camelback. I get so thirsty on my runs, and I can't stand carrying a bottle of water.
In other news, I did get out to run tonight. I didn't think I was going to be able to fit it in today, but I did. And I'm SO glad I did. I feel great. I ran 3 miles in 34 minutes. That's an 11:18 per mile. Improvement indeed. I did a little fartlek-ing tonight.. man.. that wears me right out.
Starting Sunday I'm going to really really work on getting started on the Intermediate Program. This week is my warm up week..
I've recently completed the Couch to 5k running program, and participated in the couch_to_5k community.
I'm now running 3 miles per day about 3 or 4 days per week. I'm ready to increase and improve my time and will be following coolrunning.com's Intermediate 5k Program. I encourage you to join me and share your experiences!
